ROCK BOTTOM
i don't know why i keep reporting here. i am goin nuts yall.
i scanned a sketch thing for that outfit painting to put in my presentation.
i decided they needed to see more of what i meant, and color was the best solution.
sadly, it seemed photoshopping the colors would be the fastest way.
it is with great shame i present my first and last painting sketch colored in photoshop.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME

it's that time of year!!!
today i have sat in the same chair since 10:30am (the same one i spent 12 hours in yesterday) putting together a slide show/presentation for my final review. i understand the need for a review, but i doubt it will actually be helpful. considering that i've spent more time on this than actual artwork for the past week, it seems especially stupid at the moment.
ALL I WANT TO DO IS MAKE PAINTINGS WHY WONT YOU JUST LET ME
but i can't until tomorrow after this thing is done. then after tomorrow i will actually have things to show them. MAKES TOTAL SENSE.
currently my slideshow includes images like the one below of paintings i have spent literally 10 minutes on. HOW ARE THEY GOING TO CRITIQUE THAT? they can't.
LOL

old & crappy

i am a terrible photographer but i do always love disposable camera pics. you are allowed to take shitty pictures and usually they look kind of cool.
all pictures are from last april in new york, except for the face one which is from some time in september or something. the other cool thing about disposable cameras: easily transformed into time capsules. i guess that is true of all film if you forget about it for long enough.
could i be less eloquent/articulate right now? semester needs to END.

dot compositions

today at WORK i was really frustrated that i had to be there and couldn't be making things in my studio. the only materials on hand were these labeling dots. but the small ones were transparent! they were so cool! so i made some compositions and it was fun and the most low pressure thing i have ever done IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. dots do it again!!!

ummmm. here is a preliminary sketch i did in a few hours for this whole landscape out of clothing thing.
obviously it needs to be less clothes more landscape and nothing like this at all, but i had to start somewhere. still wish the senior studios had ventilation. fucking turpentine.
edit: seeing the painting on top of the original photograph is kind of embarrassing. i hope no one thinks i was trying to replicate it closely in any way! if so, you might think i am dumb.
landscape

i'm going to do some landscape paintings now i think.
going to use images from the things i see that i think would make a good reference for a landscape but aren't land.
idea #1: clothing
the idea is more color and shape interpretation that lends itself to imaginary places rather than replication of the image. the images will serve merely as a reference or a way to organize color, mostly just to have SOME kind of starting point.
i have been into the idea of creating images of landscapes out of objects for a while so i am excited to finally do it.

ip thinger
These Times Are Not Mine is a materials exploration that seeks primarily to encompass and encroach upon an entire space – a mixed media installation. Aesthetically, my goals are to transcend the boundaries of both collage and oil painting to create a hybrid while incorporating found objects that are in conversation with the space itself. By introducing unexpected juxtapositions of color, scale, shape, image, texture, etc. I hope to create new meanings, expectations, senses of place, and understandings. As it is a process based project, it should reflect growth and sprawl, while maintaining a sense of order and design. Conceptually, my project deals with growth and change, notions of comfort, senses of place, attachment to place (imagined or experienced, memories of either), and rituals. Much of the concept is tied to existentialism (nothing has inherent meaning and so we are forced to create our own), and the project will serve as documentation of the attempt to create larger meaning from small pieces. The final installation will provide the viewer with a sensual, overwhelming experience meant to “transport,” guided by both visual and aural cues.
